Community Powers Up at Electric Gala
Langley’s generous donor community championed excellence in health care Saturday, Nov. 2 at the sold-out Electric Gala, raising funds for new X-ray machines at Langley Memorial Hospital’s (LMH) Medical Imaging Unit.
Langley Community Health & Hospital Foundation’s 33rd signature fundraising event, presented by Mike & Leanne Laurin and hosted by BC broadcast personality Amy Bell, drew 344 guests to Mercedes-Benz Langley for an evening of entertainment featuring award-winning country singer Dallas Smith.
With generous support from the community, September’s Sports Injury Month campaign and the Electric Gala have raised $1,015,000 against the Foundation’s $1.1 million goal.
“The gala was a huge success and we are delighted to have only $85,000 left to go in our campaign, and trust the community will help complete this goal,” says Heather Scott, the Foundation’s Executive Director.
Funds raised support the replacement of two aging X-rays with new technology, modernizing LMH’s Medical Imaging Unit, where more than 4,600 procedures are performed every month.
“The new machines increase efficiency, so we can image more patients faster, decrease the already very small dose of radiation per patient, take even clearer images to help radiologists interpret X-rays, and make our technologists’ jobs better so we can attract them to an even better working environment,” says Dr. Emil Lee, Fraser Health Regional Department Head of Medical Imaging.
Amid the bright lights of the electric-inspired setting, guests enjoyed a four-course meal and participated in silent and live auctions. Highlight items included flight tickets for two anywhere Air Canada flies and a pair of tickets to a Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert in Vancouver.
“Year after year, our signature gala reminds us that generosity and Langley pride binds us together,” says Scott.
“Even during the energetic auctions and socializing, all donors and guests keep their eyes on the goal – advocating for excellence in health care and supporting the addition of X-ray machines that are arguably the most-used technology across the hospital.
“Our guests understand that enabling our dedicated health care teams to do their best work ensures we all benefit from the best patient care.”
The Electric Gala builds on recent fundraising momentum, including more than $50,000 raised during Sports Injury Month in September and individual donations.
